The Department of Civil Engineering at SRKR Engineering college, Bhimavaram was started in 1980 and is as old as the department itself. It has earned a reputation in the state of Andhra Pradesh in general and in the coastal districts, for its dedicated teaching and consultancy. While the department basically focuses on teaching, catering mainly to undergraduate civil engineering students and to a select section of post-graduate students of Structural Engineering, it also offers a lot of industrial consultancies in the areas of Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. However, in light of recent advancements in national and international research endeavors, the department has recognized the significance of research as a priority. Consequently, some faculty members have successfully attained doctoral degrees, while others are pursuing them. Furthermore, the department has placed a notable emphasis on scholarly publications, with the expectation that this will further invigorate research within the department.
The Centre for Clean and Sustainable Environment (CCSE) at SRKR Engineering College (SRKREC) was established in 2023 on occasion of 90 th Birthday Celebrations of SRKR Engineering College Founder Late Sri. Sagi Ramakrishnam Raju with the intention to associate with Global Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations. CCSE is dedicated to finding innovative technologies and sustainable solutions for environmental challenges, ranging from local to global scales. Through collaborations with governmental bodies, industries, non-governmental organizations, and esteemed academic partners nationally and internationally, the center aims to address environmental concerns effectively.
Our research activities at CCSE primarily focus on various critical areas, including aquaculture water treatment and management, solid waste management, waste-to-energy nexus, emerging contaminants, machine learning applications in environmental monitoring, environmental impact assessment, sustainable construction materials, geopolymer materials, life cycle assessment of materials, and other pertinent environmental concerns. The center actively engages in a wide range of collaborations by fostering regional, national, and international research partnerships.
The center targets to use the transdisciplinary approach in solving environmental issues. This approach encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring that diverse perspectives and expertise are incorporated into the problem-solving process. By bringing together experts from different fields, CCSE strives to develop holistic and comprehensive solutions that effectively address environmental challenges and contribute to sustainable development.
To become a leading global Centre in Geo-environmental and Material Engineering Research with pollution abatement, waste-to-energy nexus, and environmental sustainability as major thrust areas.
Mission:To effectively develop short, medium, and long-term applied solutions to enhance environmental quality.
To identify and implement environmental initiatives and policies at national and international levels to ensure continuous improvement in environmental quality.
To facilitate technology transfer from laboratory research to aquaculture industries, enabling them to meet effluent discharge limits in aquaculture processing belts across West Godavari district and other districts of Andhra Pradesh.
To establish a consortium dedicated to promoting a clean, green, and sustainable environment.
To foster collaborations with government agencies, industries, NGOs, and prominent national and global researchers through transdisciplinary research to advance environmental quality.
To organize capacity-building programs to enhance environmental assessment and improvement through training, education, and workforce development.
To provide policymakers with scientific information and objective feedback regarding the effectiveness of various clean environment programs.
To contribute to driving sustainable environmental development for the betterment of society.
