The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was established in 1994 and offers both undergraduate (B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.Tech in Power Systems and Automation) programs. The department is known for its experienced faculty, robust infrastructure, and extensive laboratory facilities. It has been accredited three times by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, reflecting its commitment to quality education. It is also recognized as a research centre by Andhra University and JNTU, Kakinada.
Research and Skill development are central to the department's objectives, with a focus on Power Systems, Power Electronics, Drives, Renewables, and Electric Vehicles. The department has received funding for a DST project “Demonstration of grid supportive EV charger and charging infrastructure at LT level” of 71.78 Lakhs. The department has MSME projects Cyber physical Solution for Battery Swapping station (10.7 lakhs) and Grid Interactive bidirectional Charger (9.45 lakhs) and the faculty produce good research publications. The department trains solar PV installer Technician as a Part of PMKVY 4.0 and trained nearly 240 people as a part of Skill India. The department has Active MOUs with MSME Technology Centre, BOSON Motors, HALA Mobility & Finch Power Ltd.
The department has several specialized laboratories, including Electrical Machines, Networks & Measurements, Power Electronics, Control Systems, Logic Design and Microprocessors, Power System, and Simulation labs. Advanced skill-oriented labs such as the Solar Energy Lab, Smart Systems Lab, Robotic Lab, and Electric Vehicles Lab. The department has two research laboratories Electric E-Mobility and Renewable Energy systems available to support student training and research.
The department is equipped with a Digital Learning Centre, which houses 120 computer terminals and provides internet access to meet the computational needs of both staff and students. A dedicated department library with approximately 1000 volumes serves as a resource for quick reference and research. The department has Sadhana Lab to do innovative hardware projects. Student chapters of ISTE, IEEE, and the AEE (Association of Electrical Engineers) organize a variety of programs, including seminars, expert lectures, and model GATE examinations, which contribute to academic excellence.
The department has a strong track record of producing good GATE candidates, with several alumni securing prestigious positions in top institutions such as IISc, IITs, and NITs. Many alumni also work in leading organizations like Bosch Motors, Benz, Royal Enfield, Tata Power, Indian Railways, DRDO, NTPC, and BHEL.
The curriculum is regularly updated to align with industry trends, incorporating subjects like Solar and Wind Energy Systems, Energy Storage, Battery Management Systems, and Electric Vehicles. Final-year students gain practical exposure through specialized labs focused on Solar Energy, Smart Systems, Power Electronics, and Electric Vehicles. Our Students are finalists in SIH-2022, 2023 & eYantra (IITB). Our students have very good exposure to MATLAB. The students have done internships in Boson Motors, IIT Guwahati, Indian Railways and Hala Mobility. The students were well placed in core as well as reputed software companies.
