The Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering was established in the year 1980 with an intake of 35 which was subsequently raised to 240 over a period of time. M.Tech course in Communication Systems was started in 2006. The department is presently offering 4 year B.Tech program in ECE, 2 year M.Tech in Communication Systems and Ph.D. program. The department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated staff members. The department has good infrastructure facilities. The department is keeping pace with changing technology in terms of teaching programs and laboratory facilities. Audio visual facilities are included for effective teaching. Motivated by the recent national and international thrust on research, the department has begun to consider research seriously. As a result, a good number of faculty members obtained doctoral degrees and the remaining are being pursued. The department is giving high importance to publications which in turn gives impetus to research in the department. It established an Excellent Research Centre in VLSI Design. The centre of excellence in VLSI Design aims at providing a major platform to the researchers working in the field of Integrated Circuits Design for knowledge sharing and exhibition of theoretical and technological development in the general areas of VLSI design. The staff members are encouraged to participate in workshops, conferences and refresher courses to keep pace with recent developments in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Students of ECE have been obtaining Andhra University ranks since inception. The department was accredited four times consecutively by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The department has student chapters of professional bodies like IETE and college level ISTE, which conduct various student technical activities. Students of ECE participate in National level technical paper and hardware competitions being organized at various other colleges and some of them are awarded with prizes. They have been obtaining good scores in Gate, GRE, TOEFL and CAT. Students are placed in companies like TCS, Polaris, CTS, IBM, Infosys, Texas Instruments, BSNL, BEL, ISRO and DRDO.
